Frequently Asked Questions
Straightforward answers about recording your history, privacy, verification, and the YourSummit community.
What is YourSummit?
YourSummit is a place to record your hiking and climbing history — from a local trail to a high-altitude summit — and build a shareable record of your outdoor achievements over time.
Does it have to be a mountain?
No. Your summit can be a local hike, a 4,000-footer, a 14er, a trek to the lowest point on a continent, or anything else that matters to you. If it's a personal milestone, it belongs on YourSummit.
What does “verification” actually mean?
Verification is a review process we're building — where evidence you submit (photos, GPS data, descriptions) is checked against our internal standards. It's not live yet, but it's coming. When it launches, it won't be a legal certification, and it won't be the sole basis for any safety, insurance, employment, or competitive decision.
What’s the difference between self-reported and verified?
Right now, every record on YourSummit is self-reported — your own account of the climb, as you submitted it. Once verification launches, verified records will be reviewed against our standards and clearly labeled so they're easy to tell apart from self-reported ones. Verification will always be optional, not required to log your history.
Is verification free?
Verification isn't available yet. When it launches, pricing (and any free access for Founding Members) will be announced here and in the app.
What is the Founding Member program?
Founding Member is an early-access program for people who help test YourSummit and give feedback before general public launch. It includes free verification access once verification launches, a Founding Member badge on your profile, and early access to new features. It does not grant equity, revenue share, or any ownership or governance stake in YourSummit — it's a product-level benefit only.
Can I make my profile private?
Yes. You control whether your profile and ascent records are public or private through your account settings. If you make them public, that information is visible to other users and, depending on settings, to the public internet.
Who can see my data?
We don't sell your personal information. Your data is used to operate the service — things like processing verifications, payments, and support — and is shared only with the service providers that help us run YourSummit (hosting, database, payments, email delivery). Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Do I need to be a serious climber to use this?
No. YourSummit is built for weekend hikers, 14er chasers, first-timers, and lifelong mountaineers alike — every summit counts, whatever the elevation.
How do I get started?
Create an account and add your first achievement — a past climb, a recent hike, or one you're planning. Verification isn't live yet, but your records are saved and ready when it launches.
Can I invite others to YourSummit?
Yes — you can invite friends and climbing partners from the Invite Friends section of your account. There's no reward or credit attached right now; it's simply a way to help build the community and get more of the outdoor community's history recorded in one place and share it simply.
