First Ascender Terms
First Ascenders Program — Terms of Participation.
Last updated: August 4, 2026
1. Nature of the Program
The First Ascenders program is YourSummit's way of recognizing and honoring mountaineers with significant summit and ascent achievements — our "hall of fame" for the climbing community — by inviting them to be among the first to establish their record on YourSummit. Their ascents help build YourSummit's map of the climbing community's collective footprint, surfacing trends and history across summits, hill stations, and passes worldwide. The program also extends to early users who help test YourSummit and provide feedback prior to general public launch.
All First Ascenders, whether invited in recognition of their achievements or as early testers, receive the benefits described in Section 2 and are subject to these terms.
2. Benefits Provided
Subject to Section 4 below, First Ascenders receive:
- No membership fee — ever, even if YourSummit introduces a membership fee for other users in the future (see Section 4 for the limited scope of this guarantee)
- A "First Ascender" badge displayed on their public YourSummit profile
- The ability to secure and reserve their preferred username ahead of general availability
- Preview access to future releases and new features prior to general release
- A photo of their choice featured on the YourSummit homepage, on a rotating basis, for a duration determined at YourSummit's sole discretion
- Free access to ascent verification services on YourSummit once available, up to 5 verifications per First Ascender (YourSummit reserves the right to modify this limit at any time)
- The opportunity to provide feedback that may inform future product development
3. No Decision-Making Rights
While we welcome and value your feedback, First Ascender status does not entitle you to any vote, veto, or binding decision-making authority over YourSummit's product, business, or corporate decisions. All feedback is considered at our sole discretion and does not obligate us to implement any suggestion.
4. Right to Modify or Discontinue Benefits
We reserve the right to modify, limit, or discontinue any First Ascender benefit at any time, including in the event of program abuse, platform changes, or business necessity. We will make reasonable efforts to notify First Ascenders of material changes affecting their benefits.
Exception — No Membership Fee Guarantee. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the "no membership fee" benefit described in Section 2 will not be discontinued or reduced for a First Ascender who remains in good standing under these terms, even if YourSummit later introduces a membership fee for other users. This guarantee does not apply to per-record verification fees, paid add-on features, or other charges that are not membership fees, and remains subject to termination of First Ascender status under Section 6.
5. Verification Content Still Governed by General Terms
Ascent verification is an upcoming feature. Once available, any ascent records, photos, timestamps, or other content you submit for verification will remain subject to YourSummit's general Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, which govern data handling, accuracy standards, and platform use generally. Free verification under this program will not guarantee a particular verification outcome — including where substantial supporting evidence has been submitted, a record may still be determined unverifiable per our review standards (see Terms of Use Section 4.2). All submissions will remain subject to YourSummit's standard verification review process.
As a First Ascender, your photos, videos, and other content may be featured on YourSummit's public profile pages, in hall-of-fame or trend/footprint features, and in YourSummit's own marketing and social media channels, under the content license described in Section 4.3 of the Terms of Use.
6. Termination of First Ascender Status
We may suspend or terminate First Ascender status, separately from your general account, for violations of YourSummit's Terms of Use, fraudulent submissions, or misuse of the program.
7. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
